Sathya
Sai Spiritual Education
The Sathya Sai
Service Organisation has some 36 centres throughout New Zealand.
Most of these conduct Sathya Sai Spiritual Education classes.
Sathya Sai Spiritual
Education classes cater for three age groups: 6 to 9, 9 to 12, and
12 to 14. The aim of the classes is to awaken the student to the
inherent divinity within, which is the birthright of every human
being.
It does this through
five proven teaching techniques of: thought for the day, stories,
values based songs, activities, and silent sitting. These are simple
and enjoyable techniques, yet they are a very powerful combination.
Ø Through consideration of the thought
for the day, the child contemplates simple yet profound wisdom that
has been passed down through the ages.
Ø Through values based stories the child
can associate with positive role models.
Ø Through values songs, the children voice
positive reinforcement of the goodness inherent in them.
Ø Through activities they are taking the
concepts, which to this point have been understood in the mind,
or voiced through song, and putting them into practice through the
activities.
Ø Through silent sitting, they are able
to bring the body and the mind to stillness. It is a powerful technique
that increases memory and efficiency.
Students who have
attended Sathya Sai Spiritual Education classes have been shown
to perform very well in their normal day schools.
Modern education
tends to devote too much time to facts and figures relating to the
every day world. It ignores the spiritual dimension that is the
underpinning basis of all other education. Human beings are ‘spiritual
beings on a human path, not human beings on a spiritual path.’
Sathya Sai Spiritual
Education awakens the spiritual aspect and draws its teaching material
from the great religions of the world. It is not a religious instruction.
It is a spiritual instruction, which draws on the values and understanding
already in the child and illustrates the unity in the apparent diversity
of the world’s religions.
