THE NEED FOR EDUCARE AND HUMAN VALUES

On the 5th of February 03, the New Zealand Herald front page leader contained information that should act as a wake up call to all teachers, parents, and thinking adults. The headline read, 'NZ teens lead in suicides, crime, drugs' The article then went on to outline the following grim statistics:

Out of the 30-nation Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) finds that compared with other OECD countries, New Zealand has:

  • The highest youth suicide rate
  • The highest rate of suspected juvenile criminals
  • The highest rate of cannabis use among people aged 15 and over, and the third-highest rate of amphetamine use after Australia and Britain.
  • The third highest rate of rate of male teenagers who are not either in school or work, and the fourth highest rate of females.

The Sathya Sai Educare Programme recognises the inherent goodness in the individual and reinforces that goodness. It also provides a practical understanding of the Five Essential Human Values that provide a compass, which guide the student through the ever-twisting pathway of life.

With these guide lines, and an understanding of the three human domains: physical, mental, and spiritual; the individual grows in Self Confidence, the sense of Self Worth, in general ability. These are the three-fold armour that protects the individual from the negative thoughts and feelings that led to the problems our young face today and which are outlines in the above-mentioned article.
